Mentors Needed
Since the Pecan Springs Elementary school needs some extra help this year, they are looking for mentors
Mentors help with (1) specifically coaching students who need support, and (2) showing all of the students that they are supported and that our community cares about them and their school performance. Grades 3-5 especially need support.
As set forth by the State of Texas, all volunteers and mentors must complete an approved background check before being on campus to support our students.
It’s easy peasey! Just follow the steps below:
Volunteer Background Check Instructions
Visit austinisd.voly.org to create a volunteer account and complete the required steps for a background check, including your profile, school selection, and consent forms. Austin ISDaustinisd.voly.org
Allow 2–5 business days for processing. Typically, background checks are completed within that window. Austin ISD+1
After approval, you’ll receive a notification email confirming your cleared status. Austin ISD+1
If you don’t receive a response within 5 business days, please contact the volunteer support team at volunteerchecks@austinisd.org for assistance. Austin ISD
Once you’re cleared, reach out by email to campus Parent Support at blanca.salgado@austinisd.org.
Please allow up to two additional days after your background check is approved for campus coordination—then campus staff can begin processing your placement.
We can’t wait to welcome you to campus—thank you for supporting our students!

GOOD NEWS!

If you have been anticipating the opening of the newly constructed areas of the Little Walnut Creek Greenbelt, we have some good news.
Construction fencing should come down today allowing the park to be open to the public by tomorrow (8/30/25), in time for the Labor Day weekend! This is located on Springdale at Noorwood Hill Dr.
There may be a few items that still need to be addressed by the contractor and a few inspections that will happen, but the park will be safe and ready for the community to start using.
Now that the fencing is coming down the Austin Parks & Rec events staff will start to start look at dates for a ribbon cutting/ celebration and we will let you know as soon as we are updated.
Thank you to residents and the Austin Parks Foundation for your ongoing stewardship and commitment to make this project happen!

Memorial for Bill Stout
A Celebration of Life for Bill Stout will be held Sunday, June 8th starting at 10 am. Bill was an advocate for keeping Austin green and was known in the PSSNA as someone who cared about the amount of green spaces being lost to development.
Please join family and friends for an outdoor celebration for Bill under the Live Oak trees in the Travis Landing neighborhood park at Lake Travis where Bill lived on and off since 1999.
Breakfast tacos and refreshments will be served.
There will be seating but if you have a spare camp chair or that may be more comfortable than a folding chair, please bring it. It is an outdoor event in our neighborhood park but there will be a tent for sun shade. Also, the only bathroom facilities are a porta potty in case that is problematic for anyone.
Please feel free to share this email and forward to anyone who might like to attend – All are welcome.
Location Address: Travis Landing Neighborhood Park 6000 Longhorn Landing Austin, TX 78734
There is a locked gate at the Park Entrance and there will be a person stationed there to allow entry.

Follow up Recap: PSSNA April 2025 meeting
Greetings, Pecan Springs/Springdale Hills neighbors!! Thanks to all in attendance for our April 2025 neighborhood meeting. We had a great turnout and we were so lucky to enjoy delicious homemade Mexican pastries from neighbor Elyse! For those of you that were not able to attend April’s meeting, please mark your calendar for our May 10, 2025 meeting.

We had a guest speaker from the City of Austin pictured above, Lee Austin, from the transportation and public works department. There was a very engaging discussion and we all learned a lot about the projects already planned, as well as other options which we could request, and other ways to get involved.
Review our meeting minutes for all of the details. See you next month!
