The Home Depot Foundation × PSSNA Team Up

When The Home Depot Foundation rolled into Pecan Springs, our neighbors showed up right alongside them.

Neighbors with Home Depot Team Depot at the Pecan Springs Commons build

This spring, Pecan Springs neighbors rolled up their sleeves and joined Home Depot’s Team Depot for a build day close to home — and the impact was hard to miss.

Right here in our neighborhood, 400 Team Depot volunteers transformed Pecan Springs Commons, an affordable-housing community managed by the nonprofit Green Doors. Over a single day, the crew renovated and painted eight apartment buildings and fully furnished two of them for incoming residents who were formerly homeless.

They didn’t stop at the buildings. Volunteers built a new food pantry and a laundry facility for the complex’s 60-plus veteran residents, then planted vegetable beds, fruit trees, and gardens and renovated the playground.

“It’s not just the physical structures. It’s how it transforms our community.”
— Christa Noland, Executive Director, Green Doors

From the build day

The build is part of The Home Depot Foundation’s pledge to invest $750 million in veteran causes by 2030. Since 2011, the Foundation has put more than $650 million into veteran causes and improved more than 70,000 veteran homes and facilities.

What made this one hit different is simple: it happened in our own backyard. Pecan Springs Commons sits right inside the neighborhood, so when 400 volunteers in orange descended on the property, plenty of the faces were neighbors.

The partnership is a natural fit. The Home Depot Foundation brought the resources and the volunteer muscle. PSSNA brought the neighbors, the local knowledge, and the welcome. Together they turned eight tired buildings into safer, brighter homes — and gave dozens of veterans a community ready to have their back.

For our neighbors, it was a chance to give back without leaving the neighborhood — and to welcome new residents to the Pecan Springs family.
